“When the Breath wanders, the mind is unsteady, but when the Breath is still, so is the mind still."- Hatha Yoga Pradipika
Pranayama is an exact science. It is the fourth limb of Ashtanga Yoga. Breathing is life. Breath is external manifestation of Prana, the vital force. By exercising control over this breathing you can control the subtle Prana inside. Control of Prana means control of mind. Mind cannot operate without the help of Prana. The vibrations of Prana only produce thoughts in the mind. It is Prana that moves the mind. It is Prana that sets the mind in motion.
If you can control the external breath, you can easily control the inner vital force, Prana. The process by which the Prana is controlled by regulation of external breath, is termed Pranayama.
Pranayama goes hand in hand with the Asanas. The union of these two Yogic Principles is considered as the highest form of purification and self-discipline, covering both mind and body.
Please note that Yoga Breathing Exercises are very powerful exercises. Many people especially those who have physical or mental diseases, ailments experience dizziness or lose consciousness while practicing Breathing Techniques. As such we advice such persons, to learn and practice Pranayama, with a qualified Yoga teacher.
At our Center, we teach Pranayama, along with the Yoga Asanas (Exercises) in the General Yoga Sessions. You may book a private session if you would just like to just focus on Pranayama learning.
